Gravitational Energy and Black Hole Formation -- Mu-Tao Wang

Does energy concentration lead to black hole formation in general relativity and what does it mean? I shall discuss two types of such vaguely defined conjectures. One is spatial: if ``enough energy" is measured at a spatial boundary, should a black hole form in the interior? The other is time evolutionary: if ``enough energy" is measured at an initial time, should a black hole form at a later time? Both conjectures are closely related to singularities of partial differential equations, albeit of different types.
