Discovering sl(2) by Counting Points -- Sabin Cautis

By counting points on certain spaces reminiscent of the Grassmannian we will rediscover the Lie algebra sl(2). You don't need to know what is a Grassmannian or a Lie algebra but should be aware that sl(2) is one of the most fundamental algebraic structures in representation theory, geometry, theoretical physics... (you name it).
