As of today (6/17/02), I've received e-mail about the two versions of this article from nearly one hundred people.  Perhaps a dozen or
so mainly wanted to explain their ideas about alternatives to string theory,  others broke down more or less as:

Pro: (about 80)

Con: (basically three, two graduate students and one undergraduate)

I would be more than happy to hear from any experienced  string theorists interested in responding to the points raised in the article.
