Resources for Columbia/Barnard students
In addition to instructor office hours and the help rooms, tutoring is available from individual schools:
- Columbia College and SEAS students: Tutoring is available through the Berrick Center for Student Advising for Calculus I, II, and III.
- Barnard students: Small group peer tutoring is available via the Peer-to-Peer Learning program.
- Barnard Math tutoring is located in 502 Milstein, focused on Calculus I, II and III with additional subjects possible by request.
- General Studies students: One-on-one, small group, and drop-in tutoring is available via the Academic Resource Center.
Private Tutoring by Columbia Mathematics Graduate Students
Some mathematics PhD graduate students may offer tutoring services on a private, one-on-one basis. They tend to have significant tutoring experiences, with tutees ranging from middle school students to undergraduate students, to graduate students in other disciplines. The hourly fees vary from student to student, depending on the number of hours needed and the topics to be covered.
To contact the graduate students who offer such tutoring services, send an email to tutoring@math.columbia.edu.
In order to find an appropriate tutor, please include in your email a description of your situation, topics to be covered, hours per week, days available, etc. Typically you will receive a response within a few days. However, note that if no graduate students can meet your criteria, or are not accepting new tutees, you may not receive a response.
Columbia Mathematics department graduate students who wish to be contacted through this mailing list should contact Peter Woit to have their names added to the list.
