Preferential Ballots and the Mathematics of Democracy -- Hubert Bray, October 28, 2003

We will discuss some of the many different methods of determining a winner in a preferential ballot election (in which each voter specifies a first choice, second choice, and so on). We will also discuss Arrow's theorem, Instant Runoff Vote Counting methods, other important vote counting methods including the Ranked Pairs method, and make a connection to Game Theory.
