Vanishing theorems in algebraic geometry

Vanishing theorems in algebraic geometry, such as the Grauert-Riemenschneider vanishing theorem or its higher dimensional analog due to Koll\'ar, are usually proven using crucial inputs from Hodge theory. In my talk, I will explain an approach to such results based on p-adic Hodge theory. (Joint work in progress with Jacob Lurie.)
