Exam 1 will cover Chapters 1, 2, and 3 (Linear Equations, Linear Transformations, Subspaces of Rn) of Bretscher (any edition). One can work problems from the text for additional practice. Note that there are answers in the back of the book to the odd-numbered exercises. I recommend doing as many early problems as necessary from each section, skipping the later word problems unless they interest you. Then switch to studying practice problems for our upcoming exam.

I will be holding a problem session on Sunday, September 22, 2013, starting at 2:00 PM, in 504 Diana (Barnard). This session is likely to last for hours; while seating is limited, it is ok to arrive late. For the benefit of students who arrive on time, we won’t repeat problems that were asked earlier.
