Geometry of varieties of general type

I wish to talk about the recent results on canonical maps of
surfaces of general type including a classification theorem,
which among other things answers some open questions about
mapping geography of surfaces of general type. This has some
ramifications to the geometry of some important threefolds such
as Calabi-Yau threefolds.
