Infinite Sums, the Residue Theorem and the Abel-Plana Formula -- Dave Anderson, October 2, 2001

Using the Residue Theorem, the speaker derives the Abel-Plana formula, a 
little-known expression for the difference between the discrete sum and 
integral of a function. Applications to the Casimir effect, a 
quantum-mechanical phenomenon, are discussed.
