Are there smooth spaces which are topologically, but not 
smoothly equivalent to R^n? An amazing result says that this can only 
happen when n=4. In this talk I will sketch what is known about the 
classification of four dimensional manifolds, with an emphasis on 
exotic smooth structures.</p>
