An Introduction to Tropical Geometry -- Sonja Mapes

I will give a brief introduction to the field of tropical geometry focusing on illustrating how our classical notions of arithmetic, polynomials, and curves change in this setting.  I will also give an explanation of how tropical geometry is related to mathematical biology via phylogenetics.
