Jones polynomial and Geometry of Knots Complements -- Abhijit Champanerkar, July 13, 2004

Discovered 20 years ago, the Jones polynomial caused a revolution in knot theory. Although easily computable, it is still not understood in terms of the topology of the knot complement. Recent developments show that it appears to be closely related to the geometry of the knot complement. We will talk about some results and conjectures in this direction.
