MANNHEIM ROCKET: in the Classical era, a melody (characteristic
of the opening themes played by the Mannheim orchestra) that leaps
upward, then bursts like a firework
LIBRETTO: the text of an opera
OBBLIGATO: an elaborate instrumental line accompanying a singer
CADENZA: a showy passage in a concerto for the solo instrument
alone, often improvised
